FAFSA Graduation RequirementOn June 1, 2020 the State of Illinois General Assembly signed a bill into law requiring every student in a public school to file ONE of the following in order to meet high school graduation requirements:

The 2024-2025 FAFSA is now available for students to complete at studentaid.gov. This year’s FAFSA was rewritten to be more accessible to families and was also reduced in length. Families are encouraged to begin working on their FAFSA now. Waubonsie Valley will host a FAFSA completion workshop on March 12, 2024 at 7pm in the LMC for families needing additional assistance.
Students who are undocumented and do not have a social security number may use the Alternative Application for Illinois State Aid at isac.org/AlternativeApp.
Any senior student not wanting to complete the FAFSA will need to submit the FAFSA non-participation form by May 1, 2024. The 2023-24 Nonparticipation Form (used to opt-out of the 2024-25 FAFSA) can be submitted online on ISAC's Student Portal under the Program Applications & Status Checks tab. See the Financial Aid Application Nonparticipation Form Instructions for details on how to complete the electronic form. Please note, the non-participation form must be submitted electronically this year; Waubonsie is unable to provide a paper based form.
Additional information on the FAFSA Graduation Requirement and support in completing the FAFSA is available from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (www.isac.org).
Reach out to your Waubonsie Valley School Counselor with additional questions. Financial Aid presentations from the WVHS Counseling Department can be found here: https://wvhscounseling.weebly.com/eveningevents.html.
Senior students are encouraged to research additional types of financial aid, including scholarship opportunities. A list of local scholarships can be found on SchooLinks or posted to the student splash page https://www.waubonsiestudent.org/wvscholarships.html
