How are cell phones used in the high school?
The use of cell phones at the high school level is different than in middle school.
Students are allowed to use their cell phones during non-academic times (before school, during lunch, during passing periods, after school).
As a building, teachers are given autonomy to establish a practice for cell phone use in their classes that can range from no cell phone use while in the classroom to free use during non-instructional time. This expectation can look different from class to class and teacher to teacher but we all can agree, cell phones are a distraction to learning.

"CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES (BP 7:190)
The use and possession of electronic devices will be permitted in approved areas only throughout the
school day. These devices may include, but not be limited to cell phones, smart phones, personal listening
devices, personal digital assistants, electronic paging devices, earbuds, portable gaming systems,
electronic computing devices, etc.

- Use of these devices will be allowed only in non-instructional areas designated by the school Administrators.
- Use of electronic devices for instructional purposes will be permitted only in classrooms where the teacher has designated the use for educational purposes. The classroom teacher has the sole discretion to allow this in his or her instructional setting.
- In areas where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as the rest rooms, locker rooms, nurse’s office, etc. the use of electronic devices is prohibited at all times.
- The use of electronic devices during school assemblies and programs is also prohibited"
